I'm rebuilding a Piaggio liberty 50 (first rebuild), and have just installed the crankshaft oil seals.

Before the seals went in, the crankshaft spun freely, but now it's really tight. It will spin by hand, but needs a good bit of force.

Is it supposed to be like that?!?

    Thanks :)

    sounds like seal drag .

not sure if you could with scooters but mx bikes and likes you would put a little bit of rubber safe oil on the inner id of the oil seal to help it seat and not drag so much as they would if dry fitted.

may want to check and see if any of the other guys can verify this as ok to to ( with scooters )

    That makes sense...

I've had a google and it seems common practice to pack seals with grease before install.

Next problem...removing the seals without damaging them...probably not possible I guess :/

possible, we would usualy use seal pullers but even then they can get damaged .

yooooooo dont grease em, a lil 2 strokje is usual practice, and tight is fine, so long as there not folded over/sitting crooked (seal sits flat facing out onto the crank, not folded in) they loosen up eventually, theres atleast 3 horses turning it, dw LOL
