sounds like a damaged ring on the exhaust side (assuming the crackling is from the right of the engine)

if it's the left i'd check your transmission

could also be a plug breaking down under extreme compression.

    just slides off

the white part of my spark plug is now black

and yes the sound is from the right hand side

AND there has been a weird rubbing brush kinda sound from the transmission case recently

right, whip the tranny case off, you may have a dis-intergrating belt.

take the plug out and check the colour of the very tip.

replace your plug cap as this wont help.

put your finger over the plug hole and spin the engine over, it should blow your finger off the hole. if not your compression is down (more than likely a cold or heat seize).

think you need new piston rings.

have you checked for scores in the barrel?

looks like just worn rings, remove the piston, take the rings off and clean the piston up gently with some petrol and wire wool
make sure theres no scores in the piston

assuming it looks ok, put a new set of rings in (might be better just getting a piston and rings.
