Right its time for me to go ahead and start with my engine mods. The only thing is I know very little about this. I cant afford to buy everything I need in one go, so what is the best way to go about it? The stuff I have priced up so far is -

    Exhaust
    Air Filter
    Variator Kit
    70 kit
    Carb Kit
Rear Torque Drive (not sure wtf this even is or if I need one)

If there is other stuff here that I need which I have missed out please correct me. I'm here to learn after all. :D

p.s its a minerelli horizontal air cooled engine, 50cc.

so if I just put the 70 kit in first is there anything else I would need to do or buy to make sure it runs correctly? or does it come with everything I would need?

comes with everything you need to make it run.

but will obviously need jetting and rollers to suit.

right so if i gota upjet it would probably be worth getting a new air filter while im at it?

Hell I may as well get the new carb while im doing that too....arrghh confusion lol

air filters useless tbh , some ppl find they help performance but i dnt rate them , look in the guides someone (minor i think) has written a wicked guide on 50cc tuning , all the info u will eva need is right ther mate ;)

unfortunatly I have to change the air filter anyway. The old airbox is right up against the frame and I need to jack the rear end up to get my new wheels on, the old airbox prevents me from doing that.

cant really mod it at all. The only way forward would be to put a longer hose on the thing and attach it to a totally different part of the bike.

Would that work or is the length of the hose important?

get this man a beer, someone at last has learnt that adding power in the top puts extra stress on the botom.

i agree, crank should be the FIRST thing you do when modding a motor

But the most fiddly thing tbh , i got a quote of 100quid
suppose its better then getting a full rebuild when it all goes bang

100 is cheap for a full bike in riding out... bit pricey if your giving them the engine but i charge about that for an engine now and its only a couple hours work LOL

first thing.. iron 70 kit..upjet slightly but dont change a thing. if you need to change the box for a filter upjet and drop the roller weight..
if your not happy with the way its running grab a pipe.. if you want to then take it further whip it apart an buy a crank/bigboy barel.. and ofcourse wichever pipe matches the barrel youve chosen. then big carb an play with tranny componants.. stock transmission isnt the best but power isnt made by transmission componants.. its utalized ;)

so is it safe to put a 70 kit in without changing the crank?

all depends on what 70 kit.

    the engines life and milage.

and if it gets set-up right :bird: :pimp:

the engine is in good shape. The bike is a '92 but was owned from new by a woman who only used it now and again to go to work on and so has only done 3500 miles.

Care to recomend me a 70 kit? Its for a 50cc air-cooled minarelli horizontal.

if the crank goes with an iron 70 it was gonna go anyway.. just sped up the process slightly
