Hi, im having a problem with my bike and i just want to know if me riding it while its not working properly could be doing more damage. The problem is that when im riding it will accelerate happily till about 30mph and then it will just stay at that speed. If i twist the throttle any more it will judder as if its about to accelerate more but it just wont. Ive had the spark plug out and it was healthy. Cleaned it regarless and reset the gap. Cleaned the air filter. Checked the HT cable. And theres been no change so im going to have to take it into the garage. But am i likely to be damaging it by riding it in this state? Its just i need it for work but have no money to get it fixed yet. Thanks Jase
swap out the plug.. check the jet hjasent worked out of the carb.. check your rollers arnt worn beyond belife
id have a general look over it tbh.. have you noticed the bike get slower the last couple weeks? have you had the plug out? can you take a pic of the plug?
Ive had a look over and nothing jumps out as been wrong. No change in speed the past few weeks. Had a bit of trouble with the HT cable coming loose from the spark plug but thats sorted. Had the plug out and checked in my haynes manual and it matches a picture they say as it firering correctly. When it went wrong there was no song an dance about it, no bang, no rattle, it just wouldnt rev higher or accelerate past 30mph. Checked the idle mix given that some adjustment at running temp and it hasn;t efected it.
ok... try draning all the fuel out of it (if its injection say so an ignor the next bit) take carb off (just out of manifold.. usually one screw an no need to remove cables/pipes) turn the carb upside down an shake a little.. fuel wil come out dw.. now refit, refill petrol with nice fresh gear an give it a try.. if no good it may be a blocked jet/fuel passage as this would cause it to die at full throttle/not perform well might have shreaded the rollers/belt also so its worth having the tranny cover off for a lil look
