So how big of a job is changing the right hand side of the engine casing (exhaust side) for gilera runner sp 125, as it's snapped on one of the parts that holds the exhaust bolts. I've just been to get it Ali welded but I don't think it's gonna hold ?
Are you aware of something called Lumiweld or Technoweld? This is something you could do yourself and if it's done correctly, the weld is as strong as the parent metal. Tig welding would also fix it but that might work out more expensive then Lumiwelding it.
Hmm sounds very interesting tho I'm one of these people who are no good at all with my hands.(apart from girls haha) To be totally honest I was hoping to find some one on here that don't live to far away, and maybe help me out, OFC I would pay for the help. Is there people on hear that would do such a thing ?
Take a photo of the damage and I can assess if it can be Lumiwelded. For any sort of welding the casing will need to be stripped off and this will involve taking the head off, removing the cylinder, then removal of the flywheel and stator to get to the bolts that hold the right-hand casing on. I've Lumiwelded a footpeg bracket on for my son's Honda Varadero 125 in the past and that withstood his 15 stone-plus weight on it, so yes, it will hold if done properly.
Hmmm I have photos I'll upload. If you are saying we have to strip it to weld, then we might as well put the one I was lucky to find on eBay ?
It depends where it is on the casting. It needs to be heated to about 330C for Lumiweld to work and the engine block is one mother of a heat sink. You might be better off fitting the eBay replacement casting.
