So, here I'm writing again, trying to get the voice of Scootershack on which 70cc engine to go for for my future build Right now I'm thinking about the Polini Corsa or the Stage 6 MKII one. Has anyone bought these? If so, can you tell me which one is better for bhp and reliability?
The polini corsa I believe is a cast iron cylinder and with a Ali head, twin piston rings too so that's gunna have decent reliability with not as needed ring changes etc. pretty sure I read some "pub" figures that people had about 11-12hp out of them all running correctly. Which, to be fair is probably more than enough power to get the front wheel up! The stage 6 is a full Ali cylinder with a single ring piston which I guess in theory could probably produce a fair bit more than the corsa set up correctly however expect a hell of a lot more maintenance. New piston ring every 1500 miles or may be less! And less run I'n time!
doing a ring every 1500 miles is fuck all when you compare it to an mx bike wanting a piston every 1000. if i had the choice, id take the alu cyclinder allday everyday
I'm thinking of taking the S6, because I trust them more than Polini(idk why tho ). Speaking of the MarkII, ped parts says that: NOTE: The temperature sensor (incl. thread) must not be longer than 18mm, because otherwise it could knock against the cylinder head. Please check dimensions before mounting! . Has anyone put this engine on they're Gilera Runner SP and checked, if the sensor (incl. thread) is the correct length?
Polini corsa is just a ported polini sport with a nicosil lining and a chrome piston ring, very good reliable kit. Mate has a a/c one, done about 1000 on it. Still going strong, I personally owned a sport pro MKII very good kit. Piston ring change every 1000 miles, but good horse power output. the kit comes with a temp sender anyway, but you need to buy a piaggio one. They're around £9. Any questions drop me a message
Have a look at this Pedparts blog, one graph compares the power output of both of these kits http://www.pedparts.co.uk/blog/stage6-sport-pro-mkii-cylinder-kits-a-closer-look
I guess I'll take the MKII then, power output is much better and I don't mind changing the piston rings every 1k miles . Thanks for the info everybody
