Just had a breakdown this morning. Think the belts gone or throttle cable. Hopefully belt has gone as i have a spare to hand. I havent got a variator tool to get a new belt on. Is there a quick way i can get it off and replace the belt. Need it done tomorrow morning as im on late shift at work and buses stop before i finish. Help! Lol
There's a vid on utube that shows how to lock the variator with a 10mm spanner. Might wanna invest in an electric impact gun for future use.
Managed to get the belt changed this morning, locked the variator with an old bent hammer, locked the teeth into the claw side, and handle against tarmac, boom straight off! Now the new belt is on it's struggling to accellerate, just about does 30 and speed drops dramatically up hill, as if it's in the higher gear all the time. It also vibrates infrequently as if the belt is rubbing on something as it's spinning. any ideas why? could it just take a while for the belts to settle in to place correctly?
I think that it's not on tight - you need to pinch the corrector at the back and push the belt in to give you some slack at the variator end when you put it together. It's also possible that your new belt is wider and needs a washer on the end to give you some slip. Stop riding it and seek help. Changing cranks is expensive if you can't do it yourself.
After watching a couple of youtube videos i realised i hadnt compressed the clutch pully correctly, just done it and the belt seems to sit better within the housing and sounded better when i put it back together and started it. The belt is a little wider, going to take it for a spin and see how bad it is now. Fingers crossed
Bad news, belt was running fine when i took it round the block, went a bit further this morning and its still rubbing and vibrating when it hits 30, should just acellerate smoothly to 40. Granted before it hits 30 it runs much smoother. Any ideas?
Start scooter. Put it on the central stand. remove transmission cover. Accelerate and watch. See any eccentricity on the crank/transmisson shaft?
Scooter doesnt like starting with the cover off. Belt went again a couple of days ago. Just put replacement on. Running better, accellerates better but still rubs/vibrates when hitting 30ish. Think the last time there was a roller out of place causing it to ride like a bag of shite. Have been offered a similar bike but newer for 300, looking like im saving for that and keeping mine for spares.
Also, wheb i fitted the first replacement belt it was a little wider that the original. Could it be this extra couple of mm causing it to run slow. All the replacements ive found on ebay and chinese parts online for my model of bike are the same size 669 18 30. Is there anywhere i can get a slightly thibner belt, say 669 15 30 to try?
Thanks for that. The bikes been running ok recently, although I think crank bearing might be done for, hence snapping the belt every few weeks. I intend on ordering and replacing the following after dropping the engine out. Spak plug (needs fitting) HT lead (as current one is shite) new fuel lines and filters (otiginals look a bit worse for wear) new air filter new mirrors for mot throttle cable (as its just gone 10 mins ago) speedo cable (again for mot) new crankshaft and bearings i understand changing the crank is a pain in the tits and that I will highly likely need a crank puller tool, is there anyway i can DIY a tool to save spending?
