Have you tried wiring the lights up yourself? It sounds like a problem ive seen before, where the lights are wired up to the incorrect output from the stator resulting in the problem you described...

    electric

no i have not touched the lights they have been fine apart from yesterday when they started interfering with the engine. all i have done is took the leads from my starter motor off as i am replacing them. could i have knocked a wire which results in the headlights makin the engine do this?

When you took them off the starter motor how did you leave them? just hanging about? Could they touch the frame?.... Tape up the end terminals so they cannot come in contact with anything.

i did leave tthem hanging around and thoguth about them touching the frame could they be making the headlights stop the engine working properly? also do you have any ideas about my first electrical problem where the new battery made no difference to my electrics failong? cheers

just so you know all my electrics are as equally bad so could it be the main earth on the battery thats making the connections weak not allowing it to charge up or something? there is power going to the fuses etc and its a brand new battery

i have just looked for my regulator/rectifier and have found it and one of the 4 wires was not connected to the regulator so i reconnected it and while the engine is on the electrics are now working fine with this loose wire connected. but now the engine is misfirin again and not revin up while that loose wire is connected to the regulator. what could be causing this? the earths? the regulator wires wrong way round? ps my engine still misfires with the main headlights on. thanks in advance
