Does the starter do anything? If its turning over but not firing then could be a lot of possible things including faulty side stand switch or other safety switch, low battery power, low compression. Test battery voltage first, if its low then it may not have the power to fire up the engine.
If the electric start is not turning over at all then listen for a click from the starter solenoid. If you get no click then it's either faulty or no signal is getting to it. Run a couple of wires from the battery directly to the solenoid and listen for the click- if no click then it's faulty but if it does work then it might be a faulty starter switch. If the starter solenoid is clicking then the solenoid switch works so next test the starter motor. Rather than me explaining how to short circuit the starter motor to test it ill refer you to YouTube, lots of tutorials.
    Hope this helps.
