Hi guys, the British weather has broken the eleccy start on my bike. As some may already know, its a 1993 piaggio skipper 125 2T.

It stopped working after a ride out in the rain, it was a pretty hard down pour. When I returned to my bike the electric starter was dead, but all the lights still worked.

When I press the starter button, I just get a "tick" sound, and when I release the button I get a "tock" sound so its like "tick tock, tick tock" as I press and release the starter button, the oil light comes on as normal when I hit the starter button.. The sound comes from behind the rear, left handside panel.

Ive fully discharged the battery & fully recharged it again with my 12v charger. This made no difference, although I noticed the battery drained & re-charged very quickly which suggests its no longer holding charge. But I doubt thats the problem because it makes no attempt to turn the engine over at all, the starter motor doesnt move its just totally dead.

All lights work, the headlight brightens when the throttle is pulled so that means the altinator is working.

Something must have seized up, anyone got an idea what it could be?

is the starter relay on a typhoon behind the left side rear panel? This bike is basically a typhoon 125.

Wherever the click is coming from, thats where the relay is. :)

it might be switching alright, and thats what your hearing but the contacts inside can be knackered and not actually completing the circuit. it could also be the starter itself is seized. Run a multimeter to the starter positive and to ground and see if your getting any power to it when ya press the starter button. if you are then the motor is the issue. If your not then its likely the relay, fuse or start button. you can check them with the tester aswell.

Thanks guys, I replaced the starter relay behind the left rear panel and its now working perfectly! Im not too savvy with electrics thats why I asked on here first to be sure.

So do you guys recon the rain would have caused it?
