This might seem stupid and yes I am a lemon, but I need help.

I went to my local bike store and asked for a Gilera DNA 125 drive belt, I was given one and got it home and its loads wider than the one already on the bike. The one on the bike has only done 1000 miles so should still be fine, the reference numbers on the belts are both different too.... I am stumped.

Also the new belt is not big enough to fit between the variator and clutch and the old one seems slack.

Is it the wrong one or am I just being a twat?

    Help!!

Why not take it back with the origional one, maybe the shop can replace it because of the code thing. they can probably match the code with another one in teh back haha
hope it helps man, probz doesnt, im a lemon too :p

Yeah thats what I was thinking, what I am going to do tomorrow is try and fit the new one again. If there is still and issue I will pop it back.

    Nice bike BTW :)

It's a piaggio engine isn't it ? They all use the differnt belts even though it's the same engine.... Kind of stupid. Take your old belt in and they'll be able to give you the right one, How did your old one wear out....

@Jonnymarrw00t Yup Piaggio. The old one still looks reasonably new..... its a 2002 bike and has done 1000 miles of which 950 were this year. I wanted to change the belt as I am having various issues so thought it was something that I could tick off my list. I will let you know what goes down tomorrow....

@OllieTGBR50X I will post a few, its not the best bit of kit but its a mini commuter for me and a project.

What are the issues ? Belts generally never go that fast....

I don't think I need to change the belt, but will do to cover that possible issue. I have dropped 15mph on top end and also the A/F ratio is all over the place, so air is coming in somewhere but not all the time. My revs suddenly increase @ 40mph when it should be a steady increase up to 70mph ish being my top speed.

    Teething problems I think.

Checked all the gaskets ? Manifold ? Piston worn ?

Nope but I don't think any of those as its only just done 1000 miles. A scooter garage by me had a quick look and said its more than likely air issues, so i changed the filter too.....

I will see how it fares tomorrow when I take it out for a quick ride.

It has been annoying me though :)

Right, I did it... I was up early and sorted the whole thing out. New belt fitted and new filter. Now pushing 74mph..... BOOM!!! ha ha I still don't know what the issue was yesterday but its all good now.
