do you put it all the way in

my gilera nexus , need to check the oil so do you push the dip stick all the way in screwing it down or leave on the top of the case

 

Make sure the bike is completely level.
Remove dipstick.
Wipe dipstick off with a rag or kitchen roll.
Place dipstick in, don't screw it in.
Remove dipstick - check level.
Top up as necessary - repeating process until its spot on.

A lot of Piaggio motors need to be screwed in for the correct level, eg et4 gt all leader engines etc!
