The main restrictor will more than likely be in the variator, the centre bush/spacer might be the type with the restricted washer as part of it. So you might have to get it machined off or find a suitable replacement. The Cdi might also be restricted. Start with these things then go on further to the exhaust ect..
Check exhaust for restricting bungs (usually spot welded)-"judicious"use of hammer chisel .,restrictor ring in variator, upjet carb+new air filter to start.
Variator will have a restrictor ring in, and most likely the cdi will need to be de-restricted too. Once you have done these it should go a little faster but to find real gains i would suggest a decent sports exhaust and upjet the carb.
Once you've your few basics together, might want to do a little reserch on rollers/variator to suit which performance range your aiming for.
Setting a bike up after de-restricting is painstakingly difficult and expensive, so only de-restrict it if your friend has the funds to do so, and dont think the cheap parts are any cop either because you will be wasting your time, if your friend wants a decent gain in speed heres what i suggest he buys: Sports exhaust Upjet the carb Sports/racing variator and rollers
Ditto, when i uprate to a more modern 'ped;that'll be my 1st port of call! Always smart of course to have your workshop manual, and with research- asking arround make myself aware of uk compliance/restrictions'an especially and any spanners thrown in the works 'cause of chinese market regs.(noting- if restrictions/done with subtle variances).
Cheers, as soon as I read this I realised that maybe I thought the centre bush looked longer than expected but info on my CityBird seems lacking on google.. i've got a Performance Variator off flea bay coming Wednesday (latest)... Newly modified exhaust before Friday (fingers crossed)
