Hi guys, Where do i start to derestrict a Piaggio Zip SP? It is completely standard, and cant even do 30mph full throttle, so i decided its time too. Obviously a new exhaust is what is needed straight away, but is there any others i can take out to make a difference? I've heard about the washer in the variator and also about a plate on the airbox where it joins the carb? If anybody else knows any others that would be great, Sam.
Alright mate! there is a brass washer in the mauth of the carb! in the air box? (bastard to get to with all the plastics on) The exhaust has a pipe? That needs to be cut of and welded up! Washers in the exhaust! variator spacer! You need either the tool or an air gun! but there is a washer in there but after that you need to up jet to a 55 main jet!
No the brass plate in the carb isn't a restriction. This is a common mistake. Leave it in for just a de-restriction but if you do any more tuning then remove it. Easiest way is a new exhaust which you will also need to de-restrict as they normally come with a cone where they meet the exhaust port. You will also need to remove the restrictor washer in between the variator and upjet slightly as well as fitting lighter rollers and slightly stronger clutch springs. You do however need to understand that this will probably void you warranty if you do it yourself. It has been known that getting it done by a dealer can some times mean you keep the warranty but it depends on the dealer.
