I cant get my head around this, so hope someone can help.

I started my bike off electric start last night, rode just under 2 miles, turned bike off, went to turn bike back on and my battery was dead, had no battery power at all, had to kick bike over, rode for another 6 miles in the hope she may have regained some charge but no luck, i know now that i will need to buy a new battery, but will any of you guys give me a suggestion within regards to a fault in my bike?

Just want to do some fault finding first to see if i have any other problems as i will be working on it. Dont want to buy a new battery and that one die a few weeks later due to a fault somewhere

    Thanks

Make sure your leads are clean/tidy (remove any corrosio/tarnish-re-connect applying petroleum jelly to terminsls)
make sure your not overloading it with extra fitments!
    make sure your rectifier's o.k.
    fit right match!
overcharging it = hot or fluid level falls
    make sure fuse o.k./right one
check bike in main earthed properly!
check wiring for breaks (esp.when free to move easily/kinked/compressed/frayed/ancient!)
    check switches (continuity)
    starter relay check
make sure free as can be (esp.'round steering head)
don't use starter more than 10's at a time (lead to burnout) .
battery maintenence is much more important/winter.
make sure you have correct/flow charger!!
    Probaly could say more,but hope this helps/little. :) .

if you have a multimeter, check your voltages before, and after starting.
if you have a higher voltage when running, the chances are more likly to be the battery..
