Basically, i got given a katana lc off my dads mate as a non runner. Opened her up to find a malossi variator, belt and malossi clutch, with the intention of making it roadworthy once again. But my dad had other ideas, and wanted to make it the fastest scooter in our area, so we had a little visit to chiselspeed (top shop by the way), and waxed 350 quid in one go on a big bore kit, 19mm malossi carb and a few other little bits. Here`s a few pics of the build so far

    the bits all laid out

    barrel,head and carb on.
I`ve got to bleed the brakes, fit the new pads and discs, and do a bit of paintwork. i`ll post some more pics when i`ve got a bit further.

    cheers from dan

i would seriously get a gearup otherwise your gonna be topping out at 52 everywhere.

Also ive got a few old spare parts from when i tuned my katana, like reedblock, inlet, old airfilter. Also near enough hole set of the old style panels...

Also got 4 sets of malossi rollers 16x13 if you need any just pm me mate.

Also if you need any help i pretty much remember that off by heart

thanks for your advice, am gonna take off the drive casing 2mora afternoon(sunday) and have a look at the gears. i think it might already have one on, as the two shafts are very clean and new looking, but the bloke from chiselspeed says that we need to look at the gear itself. if thats the case, he said he would press me a gear up kit on for nowt as long as i got it from him. soon as it`s up and running it`s off for a dyno run to set it up.

    cheers from dan

Re: Dan`s AY50 katana project UPDATE

    now then fellas

finally got it running, after pissing about for 6 hours going through the wiring loom only to find the CDI was fooked. managed to pick a new one up for a tenner though, so thats ok.
had some trouble with the jetting. Got some advice off for base settings off someone i know, with an open air filter he said to run at least 100 main jet and air screw out 1 1/4 turns, but this was miles too rich. I`m running an 82 main jet, air screw 3/4 turn out, needle on 2nd notch from top. i tried it on our road with no fairing and it stopped dead at 55mph, but this is possibly the rollers being too heavy still and lack of gearup kit. i`m running 4,4gr polini`s. I used avgas 30:1 premix to run it in once we got it fired up. smells fucking ace with castrol 747 oil in it. I still can`t get it to start without the choke on, no matter how hot it is. i`m suspecting the pilot jet is too big, it`s flowing too much fuel in at the bottom end. can`t get it to tick over properly either. Any advice would be nice.

    cheers from dan

must you be like that lol

no, it was £350 quid for the kit, carb 2 sets of brake pads and a few other little bits.
i`m one of these people who won`t wait for stuff, i want it there and then. besides it`s better to deal with people face to face. thats my view anyway.
