ok so today i too off my exhaust to clean it n stuff and when i put it back in it was really hard to start and running really shit and kept cuttin out wen i dropped the revs so i realised my bolts werenttight enough so i went to re tighten them and in one of the bolt threads where the exhaust connects to the cylinder there is no thread. any1 got any ideas on what to do?
    thanks

if your saying the stud has threads but the thread runs out before the exhaust is tight,
the stud more than likely isnt screwed in far enough to the barrel or is screwed in the wrong way around.....

or if your saying the thread is stripped on the exhaust stud(s)

Buy some new exhaust studs that have threads, most bike shops should stock them...

or take the studs out and use bolts instead ;)

if you mean the threads have gone in the barrel i had to make studs up 6mm one end for the exhaust but 7mm on the other end and tapped the to holes out to 7mm

could get them helicoiled but this means drilling the hole out and getting the helicoil piece in and the problem with doing this is that the helicoil piece is made out of a different material to the barrel so when it heats up the barrel will expand at a different rate and eventually the helicoil piece will become loose. will cost about £5-£10 to get this done

a simpler way would be to use a tapered drill bit in the hole and use a lot of locktight when putting the stud back in. problem with this is that the threads won't be brilliant so stud could eventually come out. or could make the tapered hole a little bigger but this means using a bigger stud

hope my mumble jumble makes sense lol

i don't think i mean tapered drill bits. the drill bits that you screw in to make the threads again. i dunno lol

I beleive the correct term is a tap ;)

you may be able to re-tap the holes out!!
