Crank seal inset?

    Could anyone tell me what the inset is for the crank seal on variator side, it seems to be able to go in all yhe way down to the bearing,but looking at an old engine it only goes to the lip of the shaft (lol) which one is right , engine is minarelli vertical, same as yamaha bws/ zuma, and mbk rocket any help would be amazing cheers

    I would keep it clear of the moving face of the bearing, as seen in photo 1.
    As long as it seats around the plain part of the crank shaft, it should be fine.
