I just split my cases on my 172 because I had an air leak and noticed a small hairline crack. Its on the vario side and it goes thru one of the bolt holes and towards the back tire. Anything I can do to fix it or atleast keep it from getting worse? I have stripped and cleaned the cases and hoping to get all new bearings and seals tomarrow.

    You can't just weld it.

Is your bike a 172 ? no. I've seen cases snap CLEAN in half from a little crack.

Take it too somewhere that's good at ali welding. They should be able to sort it out for you.

Ive seen video of one broke in half, dont want that. Yes its a 172 so theres more power than stock. I thought I saw somewhere someone welded a long thick strip of Ali across the top of the variator. They must have grinded off the variator cover tabs so the strip of Ali would lay flat, then tap holes in it for the cover.

Just take it to a local fabricators to get it welded before it gets any worse and it shouldnt cost much, Shame your not in the UK or i could get it done at work for you.
