Right here's the problem, I've got my old computer sat upstairs and have completely forgotten what password I had on it. So I can't get past the sign on screen to use it again (wanting to set it up in the kids room) It's running windows XP. Can someone help me out with any info on what to do to get it working etc? I've tried getting it to start up in safe mode, but it won't have any of it, also tried inserting the windows disc again but nothing comes up...its got me all confused :wtf: Cheers imp:
press ctrl+alt+delete twice, key in administrator and hit ok without a password in, chances are theres no admin password set, failing thaat type in guest and see if the guest account is active
cheers for the info Chris but its not working ..password is active and theres no guest account as i got rid of that to stop the kids getting on it lol :w00t: ....anyway to just reformat it?..cant get the safe mode to come up either
Theres a file you can download (mainly from warez sites). You burn it on to a cd or put it on a memory stick it will let you log in with out putting a password in. I will have a look for it now.
format it, if theres stuff on the you want to keep, rip out the hard drive and put it in another computer as a slave drive and get what ever you want. :w00t:
1. Place your Windows XP CD in your cd-rom and start your computer (it’s assumed here that your XP CD is bootable – as it should be - and that you have your bios set to boot from CD) 2. Keep your eye on the screen messages for booting to your cd Typically, it will be “Press any key to boot from cdâ€Â
Restart computer....... press F8 about rapidly......... start in safe mode....... log in as administrator........ change password worked for me
It won't boot from disc so can't use the windows xp disc to reformat it, and have also tried the F8 key to no avail ..nothing seems to be working :emb: All it does is go to the sign in screen on windows XP I'm going to have a go at the thing adam has suggested, been reading on the net about a few options...all of which I've tried so far apart from creating a bypass method :msn1: ...god I hate computers :bird:  edit: found out why it wouldnt boot from disc so I could reformat it, the bio's wasnt set properly :emb: ....now reformatting with no probs imp: unk: ..so all sorted, cheers fellas for all your help
ctrl-alt-del then end task on explorer then repeat and select start new task, type explorer.exe and windows will pop up
Computers all fine now ..but was just wondering on a few points about wireless networking imp: as Ive got a wireless router sat here etc. I have 2 desktop computers, but only one wireless adapter, so can I use one as wireless and the other as wired? As the main computer which I'm typing this on at the mo will have the router right near it, so cant see the point in using another adapter...and if I can do this how do I go about setting it all up....I'm not great with computers but pick things up if expained to me...typical woman :bird:
Firstly......HOW? I've been trying to set it up....got first comp on ethernet cable..so far so good lol, the computer upstairs, well thats another matter ...its detected two other wireless networks..niether of which is mine :msn1: :w00t: Given up for tonight as kids need sleep and the second comps in there room :wtf:
