    Ok

So I'm thinking of cleaning my exhaust with caustic soda. I have never used it before but I watched a YouTube video and the results look great.

I am looking for any advice on the subject. Also someone told me that my expansion chamber has baffles inside so do I want to avoid getting any inside the exhaust?.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Done it a few,
    #1.do it outside(case of spills),
#2.Don't get it on your clothes,
#3,.NEVER get it on your skin!!!!!.
#4.Usual advise is a couple of hours (o/night better).
#5.May need more than 1 application...dependant on mixture or area to treat.
    #6.don't bung BOTH ends up.
    #7.ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES!!!!!!.
    +++++
do you add it to water / or / water to it.;).?.

Will rubber household cleaning gloves do the trick? And how much soda to water for an expansion chamber. Also I was going to use a big plastic tub to put it in. Would that be the right idea?

And why not bung both ends. Do I want the mixture to get inside the exhaust?

You don't bung both ends,'cause of heat generation subject to chemical reactions...........,
rubber gloves are perfect as is tub,but don't use ultra thin or fabric based gloves.
    Downpipe upwards + fill,leave o/night..then up-end.,
does your exhaust have packing.?.,best remove and repack.;).
don't forget to wash out thoroughly.,
Measurements will be on container/bottle (strength of mixture for use on?).

    If you've got a 1 piece,this is how i'd do it-
leave tail pipe unbunged & plug other and stand like this.,
    If you've got a re-movable tailpipe,plug downpipe +fill and stand opposite to above (upside down),tailpipe's as you please.mk. 2014-06-12 06.02.13.jpg

Cheers Mark that pretty much confirms what I saw on YouTube. Will this get the rust off of the outside of the expansion chamber if I soak it in a bath?

bung end with a potato. if you use warm water it'll react quicker. Remove wadding from end can but leave baffles in as they too need cleaning
Careful if you intend to soak the whole lot in a bath as if you leave it long enough it'll burn through the plastic...after all its caustic and thats why you're using it in the first place
