hey recently got a 172 barrel for a friends sr 172 project but it has 4 or 5 black lines down it, some of them u can feel a slight score i mean very slight but can they be sanded down? i know it wont be like a brand new barrel but would it be usable wiht a brand new piston and rings? how and what would i smooth it down with? thanks

And heres me thinking malossi 172 cylinders were nikasil plated, so couldnt be rebored over size
    without being re plated ;)

also are there actually any over sized piston sets for 172 kits ?

depends what size kit you have,.... but no, its a case of replate and new piston/rings... = more expensive than a new kit

moral of todays story, buy new kits kids, second hand kits are WORTHLESS

all i asked was how to clean it and what with, not reboring it,not buying a new one, not ragging it till it blows up, not throwing it at my neibours just how to rub out the marks :wallbash:
    anyways ive been told
400 wet and dry and wet it
and rob it in a curcle not up and down like the piston goes so gona try that

its nicasil, not iron... sanding it isnt exactly gonna keep tollerences to a minimum now is it...

once there marked/scuffed there fucked.. so ye, its past savable (this is down to not changing the rings in time) so rebuild it and rag it till it blows like everyones said. they dont last forever, marks are a sighn of a verry short remaning life.. sounds like its plain gone through the nicasil in parts as you can feel it, its 0.1mm of nicasil, if you can feel anything in there its fucked.

so ye, you just got hold pof a fucked kit for a m8 and dont wanna say nothing? buy new.. if you cant afford new you cant afford these bikes as quite simply they spit out 172's pritty often... second hand bits are for second hand people. these people shouldent tune bikes as quite simply race based parts are only any good new, or shortly after being new..

dont cheap out, it costs more. why the HELL would somone sell you a good 172 kit cheap? heres an idea, coz its fucked/nicked. only reason
