I need to change the air filter to something a bit smaller on my scoot. The current air filter is in the way and gets trapped against the frame when i lift the back end up, which I need to do in order to fit the new bigger wheels I have. Being a newbie to this I assumed it would be a case of just bolting a new one on, but apparantly I have to "increase the jetting by 10 - 20%" to use the filter i would like. (it has to be as small as possible to accomodate the height increase) Whats jetting? Is it expensive to do? Is it an easy job? (this is the filter I was looking at https://www.pmtuning.co.uk/Merchant2/me ... 0219050JOG )
Jetting is changing the main jet to a higher one e.g. 72 main jet to an 82 main jet. you want to go up about 10% trying highest one first and working down in 2's e.g. 80 , 78 , 76 , 74, 72 depending on what the main jet size is in your carb on your bike already
whats a jet? lol Like I say i'm totally new to this. I assume it has to do with how much petrol is allowed through the carb? What happens if you dont upjet when you stick on a filter?
will have a big bag full of flat spots in the power curve imp: and quite possibly put a hole in your piston :w00t:
haha ok, i wasn't going to try it but its good to know. How do I find out what size the jets are on my scoot at the moment?
your gonna have to whip the float bowl off your carb and check what numbers stamped on the main jet The main jet is usually the big jet that sticks out from the rest in the middle of the carb
and how do I know when I have got the right sized jet in? I dont wana risk destroying me scoot.....cant afford me another!
