My scooter runs up to about 55 mph and then shuts down though I still have throttle left to go... I don't really know what all has been done to it in the past...its a '99 Italjet formula 50 with Malossi 70 cyl , manf, 21mm dellorto.. Im wondering if the ignition is simply limiting the revs?? Main jet too small?? ...jim
sounds like your gonna be swapping a few bits to work this one out.first is the float hight right.when you say"shuts down" decribe before and after .could be anything.
When you get up to 50-55 mph, youre only using about 2/3 of the throttle then when you open it up more there is a complete shut-down or dying out. Ive got the carb off now & clnd it but it wasn't really dirty...didn't have any blockage or deposits...has a #72 main jet...float looks to be parallel to the bowl surface. Its a little fiddly removing the carb so ive ordered a clear bowl that has a plug on the bottom for jet changes Also found a little tach on ebay ....I can see what sort of revs im getting...
ok.if your getting petrol,next,sparks.55ish is well inside the speed allowed if it was cdi restricted,so don't think its that.have you tried another coil.ive had coil go and i thought it was carb.felt like complete throttle shut off.like the key got took out
I don't have another coil...it is a shut-down but when I let off it comes back & continues on... ive noticed there are CDI boxes & coils on ebay for very little money....just wondering how they would work on this bike...they claim to be performance items & unrestricted..
Same description i was having.wont bore ya with the details but i changed the carb, filter, pipe, cdi, then coil and cap.that fixed it.if you got a standard bike then whip one off any ped that's about the same size 50cc-150 .if its firing ide say the cdi was ok
