Dont make the same mistake I did and think that it last for life once passing a car test ! this only applies to a full bike license, Otherwise it has to be renewed every 2 years.

completed CBT aged 16 on an automatic, now that I am 17 am I able to ride a geared bike?

Now that you are 17, you may ride a motorcycle up to 125cc with your current CBT. If you completed your CBT with Easy Rider, we will teach you free of charge how to use the gears on your motorcycle.

Yeah you'll be fine, the CBT covers you upto a 125cc, Just be sure to get used to a geared bike as its a little strange after riding a twist and go for such long time, I did my CBT on a 125 geared bike, even tho I only wanted it for a 50cc moped :) just gives ya that little extra bit of confidence.

especially when you wanna make a quick getaway at the lights.

You can ride a 50cc on a full car licence if you passed your car test within two years of your cbt. Anything above 50cc you have to retake your cbt. If you pass a cbt on a 50cc moped and you are 17 you can legally ride a 125cc moped or geared bike. Look it up on the government website if your unsure.

Well this is the dilemma ive been having, I did my CBT at 16, Passed my car test at 17, I should have a full moped license right ? without the need to re-do my CBT ?

Yet some insurers say I need to retake it, Some sites say I do too, Yet some insurers and sites have said no I dont need to re-take it.

On my license it has the code 122 ( i think) which means moped license valid on completion of CBT, Which I think is an error as ive done it in the past.

Ive got the CBT booked so it makes no difference, Im just a little annoyed that im gonna have to fork out more money to get this damn thing on the road. this was meant to be a cheaper mode of transport lol. the total amount so far is close to 1k, i could of just ran my car for 12 more months for that price.

your comment was right though - https://www.gov.uk/cbt-compulsory-basic-training/cbt-if-you-have-a-car-driving-licence

EDIT: When I do this questionnaire on the same website, It says I need a CBT https://www.gov.uk/vehicles-you-can-drive

My test is booked for saturday, Im gonna ring the DVLA tomorrow and tell them to check my records, they'll see I did a CBT at 16 on my provisional license, then they'll see I did my car test before the CBT expired, this way Ill know for sure and can hopefully save the money, and I can blow it on some moddz :)

ive recently insured my scooter and my cbt should of expired last year but as i passed my car test it now lasts the life of your driving licence (60 years). I made sure of this with my insurer.

If your scooter or bike is over 50cc you have to retake the cbt

cbt only last's for 2 yrs no matter what licence you have untill you do your full test the only peaple with a 50cc moped entitlement on a car driving licence are peaple who past before feb 2001 anyone after that has to do a cbt every 2 yrs

also take it easy on what geared bike you get even tho its a 125 there is a hp restriction and since the law changed in january cops a;; over the country are cracking down on lads with bike like rs125's and some county's even have mobile dyno machines if your caught out you will be done for driving with no licence and as your only covered upto a certain hp this also voids your insurance so you will be done for no insurance aswell. ive had to declare all mods on my ped and im taking it easy on my dt as its a 93 unrestricted model

Thats the info ive been told too, But if you refer to the links in my previous post you will see how it differs, and thats from the government website.

Its really confusing, And im sure its made that way to get money from vulnerable people

No its people who passed on or after 2001. Taken from the government website:

If you passed your car driving test on or after 1 February 2001, you must complete a CBT course to confirm your full moped licence. This means you won’t have to take CBTevery 2 years to continue riding a moped.
If you already have a CBT certificate and then pass your car test, you can ride a moped without L plates without taking the full motorcycle test.
In this case the CBT certificate for riding mopeds will last for as long as your car licence.
