the carb on my zip 50 keeps leaking. Where the airbox meets the carb, the leak seems to be coming from there. everytime i throttle, petroel starts to squirt out the carb. I have checked the carb, checkd jets, throttle cable and i even tried a new carb and it still leaks.

    any help?

    not the float.

the height of the float, if positioned incorectly the needle will not shut off the valve and petrol will still flow into the bowl causing it to overflow

Where exactly is the petrol coming from... youve checked to make sure the pipe isnt split anywhere i assume... if its fuel coming from the actual airbox to carb rubber tubing then it has to be float level is wrong, as thats the only way fuel can get to there... how did you check the height to make sure it was ok?

and after the numerous times you'v been told, you only just ask how to check it when you said you'v done it and it was fine.

Don't fuck about with it in the first place .

    Go read some books/guides/manuals

i aint fucked around with it. one day it was fine and the next day this happened. would someone tell me how to adjust the float height... i dnt see how it could be the float height tho coz i tried another carb and it still happened.

Thats the weird thing... theres nothing at all that could happen on the bike that would make both carbs leak as the carb should shut the fuel supply off when its full internally to a preset level... so either your highly unlucky and both carbs have a float height problem or both have debris under the float valve so it cant seat and stop the fuel.

But as the chances of the same fault being on 2 carbs at the same is very slim, i would double check the obvious things first.

Fuel line when fuel is flowing through it as chances are its got a vacuum safety tap on, so it might only leak when the engines cranking as thats the only time fuel is flowing.

Double check the original carb didnt flood the crankcase with fuel and its the excess thats being thrown about still... ive had them fill the crankcases completely.

ye id second that exactly, but add this for noob's and to cover the basics

are the fuel and vac pipes in the right place? putting the fuel feed into the vac and a vac into an overflow WILL flood out the carb, even wiht a working fuel tap... be sure everythings in the right place first then check as tom said, prittymuch spot on (as youd expect from a piaggio mechanic, well, most of the time LOL) :hello:

cheers for the help. I took the manifold off and looked down the crank hole and i can see petroel down there. It looks like its flooded big time. So ill empty that out and hopefully after everything will be good. Cheers

Managed to get most of the petroel out of the crank hole today and i also dried the piston/cylinder coz it was covered in petroel. Put it all back together and there is still a leak. :banghead:

Could be the float valve seat.Take the carb off completly and open the float bowl,Blow down the fuel intake pipe and lift the float slightly and see iff it cuts off the air so you cant blow anymore.

Old hat method we uded to do this with Honda SS50s in the old days, were renowned for it.
