does any one know how log a car from europe insured there can be used in uk? and what cops say if you stay longer???? thanks
This sounds like some silly way to scam out of paying higher insurance or something. More details would be needed.
A car from a foreign country can be in another one for a maximum of 3 months. If it is there longer you are obliged to re register the car in that said country. If you don't, you can be fined by the foreign country. The 90 days resets if you return to your home country
yes terro it was a way to get a 1.8 liter bmw for insurance cost of £100 a year , but as brettfield saying its 3 months bit dodgy to ride it after. What if the car leaves country after 3 months and enters again? still would be cheaper as if you buy tickets for fairy same day return its like £20
Yep i guess you could return it to the country of origin and come back, but i think you may struggle to find an insurance company who will actually insure a foreign vehicle
Yeah but i'm guessing you'd be insuring it in the country it came from so say germany but for a german insurance company you would probably have to be a german, the car be registered in germany, kept in germany and have a policy that allows a lot of time outside the country. Most car and bike insurance is something like 30ish days. As said before you can't keep it in the UK for long without it having to be registered. I know for a fact it's only allowed 6 months stay out of 12 without being registered in the uk. Plus if you actually get pulled at any point i'm pretty sure you wont be allowed to drive it home.
yh im lithuanian and i could get insurance there on my name etc , and it would be enough just to go france as there is no more passport checks or controls after that, so im guessing that if i have a car that it insured in europe i would need to leave the uk every 6 moths and go back to do mot once a year , sounds long but still would be cheaper to run like this for few years till my insurance cost drops a little bit correct me if im wrong
