ive got an lx50 and i cant seem to undo the variator. ive been using my impact driver but it just isnt coming off. is it mandatory to have the variator tool cos i thought i read somewhere thet you need either not both?
does it have a reverse thread so it doesnt loosen itself??
i'm pretty sure it is a normal thread tho?

    thanks

i'm not aware that it has a reverse thread, usually an impact gun will undo it streight away. air powered ones are the best.

Again, Not sure if its reverse thread (should be able to see if you look close enough)

I knocked up a holder in 15 mins, Heavy duty (i never use the impact gun on my own scoots in fear of bending/twisting/snapping the crank)

sometimes it takes 3 or 4 attempts with the impact gun to loosen the
variator nut, if the nut has been tightened up very tight!!

I always use an impact gun myself...and havent had any crank problems!!

ok its all sorted now, made aholder ina bout 15mins aswell out of an alloy or something as i only had really think steel that would take ages to cut.

nut came off easy, im so clear on how these things work now so simple yet so effective.

i removed the washer now but i do need the bigger jet it just doesnt get enough fuel to pull through the gearing

i thought you did with the lx as the jet is only a .53 standard
EDIT - he's got a derestricted pipe on it too....

you need to upjet about 4-5% with the pipe, and go from there. Probably best to get a bunch of jets and see which one suits your scoot the best by riding and checking the plug colour.
