After getting the valve timing wrong on my scarabeo 125 2002, the valves touched the piston damaging the camshaft keyway, i was going to get a new camshaft but decided to try fix the old one, i cut a slot in the cam sprocket with a dremmel, then cut and filed an m5 bolt to fit in the slot, a homemade woodruff key, thats worked so one of my scarabs is running, the other one was bangin like a outhouse door so ive laid it up, there is a good 1 mm play in the big end so it will need a crank split, also oil was leakink out the crankshaft onto the belt so a seal must have gone, will probly leave it as a winter project, will be getting the piaggio beverly on the road soon, thats a low milage stolen recovered so shouldnt need much work

Projects are always best left for those long winter nights.

I did something similar to my tomos flywheel. I lost the woodruff so I used a hardened dremel bit cut to size.
Sometimes you gotta think outside the box

Bravo in your efforts Ian, however, an M5 bolt is not hard enough to be used as a woodruff key for any length of time.

I reckon that it is, hard is also brittle, thats why the camshaft broke, i should think that the shearing propertys of an m5 bolt are pretty high, as long as i keep the valves away from the piston, i was going to use an old dremell bit, but didnt have a cutting disk to chop one up
