not atall.. different scavanging qualitys make for greater vacumm through the entire engine (and the lil hole it all comes through is called a carb) now, this "carb" feeds fuel to air under vacum, the slide restricts air to the engine, the vacumm the engine places the carb under determins fuel via a pre set hole (the jet being the mane one of many diff curcits on the carb)

so ye basicly, if the pipe sucks harder, it gets more fuel through the lil hole for the same ammount of air... or just sucks more air and this pushes the fuel into the jet.. ether way you could theorise over it for hours.. just ajust it so it works then come to your conclusion

unlucky dave, so a new exhaust caused all that, if i may ask what is that pipe going from the end of the exhaust to the front of your engine.

that pipe is part of the cooling circuit, attaches onto the cyl head, its just resting
against the exhaust tail pipe :D

Dave, make sure you flush out the bottom end with fresh fuel and ensure all possible remnants of that piston crown don't evade detection, then re-lube the mains and big-end. Hope thats all it is, all possibilities have been ventured here, no more to add.
