I took my bike in for its MOT which I was dreading because it's an R reg Katana and to my suprise it failed... On:

'Front Brake lever has inadequate reserve travel'

I knew there was something up with the brake because it feels different, the lever obviously pulls in too far close to the throttle and brake fluid has been leaking.

Luckily the bike has been off the road for the last month or so.

I was just looking for an answer as to how it will be repaired by the MOT centre on Monday or whether I could do it or I will end up having to get a new 2nd hand brake cylinder?

I was told that the caliper was dirty and not letting the wheel spin as free as it should but I cant remember if he said that this would affect the brakes.

    :confused:arc:

    Cheers dudes.

youve probably got air in the system due to the leak...or low fluid..or
    both ;)

And the dirty caliper will be a sticking piston causing the brake to bind!!

both jobs arent hard to fix for say a competant home mechanic...but
if your not i would leave it to a professional...remember brakes may have
to save your life one day...dont compromise ;)

Ok well it's where the brake lever presses into the cylinder part that it's leaking...

I just wanted some advice because I don't want to get mugged off by some garage, I know I can't really do it myself, brakes are too important but I just wanted to know why the brake lever was pulling in so far...

Cheers dave, I think it could be both the air and low fluid.

    Will just have to see.

    Sorted.

Topped up the brake fluid on Friday and realised when I was sitting on the bike in the back of the van that the lever was back to normal, so I told him what had happened and when I got a call from the garage later on she said that whatever they had done along with the re-test was all free....

    :pimp:

Now to clean it up and sell it!
