Hi all, I've had a full bike licence for some years now but had to give up riding due to a neck problem. It absolutely broke my heart at the time and I thought that was that until my neighbour pulled an old Speedfight out of the shed to sell. Then I thought what the heck why not? 100 quid later and I'm the proud owner of "Vera". A new tyre on the back, a new battery, a new starter motor and a fresh MOT and I'm back!!!! Going out for my first proper ride on her later. Wish me luck. All the best. P.S. I have no manufacturers manual for it. Can anyone tell me how to start it properly from cold?
Hi welcome to the forum!, Most things are auto on a 'ped in comparison to geared, After ignition on,pull in left lever (ign.cut-out,stops/starting-prevents accidents), Then either electric start or kick her, choke is auto an she'll be ready in a minute or 2.mark. .
Thanks for that. It starts but cuts out straight away. After a couple of attempts it keeps running. Just had my first proper ride. What a disaster. She was all over the road like a snake and holding back. Pulled over to find I've got a puncture on my brand new tyre and the rear brake is grabbing. Oh well.
Ha ha ha, Think of it more like a fact finding mission. ., Least you got yourself started, fair few speedfighters/aerox's floating 'bout on this forum, bound to be able to grab more type specific advice if needed ,just got back in the saddle myself after quite a few off on something fairly older, 1st 'proper' ride was a blast!,make sure you post yours!.mark.
Just below where the idle/mixture screw is. I assume it's the float chamber? I'll take the air filter box off later and have a look. Might account for why she was hesitating. Fuel starvation due to it all leaking out maybe.
I take it she's been sitting awhile!, I'd check float chamber gasket, float height, overflow pipe, drain screw, not knowing your carb/mixture,idle screw o-rings?, Most importantly clean carb.right out as over time debris can settle/harden.
She has been sitting for a bit. I'll take it off and check it out. Gonna order some bits later anyway so if I need anything it's not a problem. Thanks for the advice.
As sitting a bit , i'd replace pipes for safety an check fuel tap diaphram operates o.k., Good luck.mark. .
Thanks Mark. Haven't had chance today. Just finishing tiling a floor. Will hopefully have a look one evening. I'll keep you posted.
I've got a speedfight manual I can email to you, As for the starting when it's cold thing, not too sure, mines manual choke so I just pull it up, leave it for a few minutes, return it and away we go, you'll probably find more problems along the way, best to check the whole bike over, start with the most needed things then work your way through
Hi Conver93, mine's a 2000 speedfight, just before they changed it to the speedfight 2. If you've got a manual that covers it then yes please I would really appreciate a copy. I think this scooter will most certainly keep me busy for a while.
Mehhhh speedfight 1.... Speedfight 2, they're both the same, that's why when you but parts it says speedfight 1&2
