Right, my Gilera DNA 50 has been fine reliability wise up until this past week. First it just cut out so I pulled to the side of the road and it started straight away. Carried on and then went to get some bits for my Dads bike. Came out of he shop and it would not start. I tried a few things and started to push it home, got half way and it started. The next day I replaced the plug, cleaned the air filter and adjusted the throttle cable. Everything was fine until I was caught in the rain we had Saturday night when it kept cutting out but as soon as I stopped it would be fine. Today on the way to college it just cut out and wouldn't start. After a 45 minute push back to my house, I've changed the plug and still no luck. Whenever it cuts out the petrol gauge goes to nothing and the fuel light comes on, this also happens when I try to start it. Is it an electrical problem (there is a spark) or fuel related. why would a blown fuse make the bike work intermittently? :wtf: ffs dont answer questions if you dont even understand the logic of your own answer!! do you even no what a fuse does? idiot anyway sounds electrical so check the earths all over the bike for bad contacts, and check contacts to rectifier/regulator, cdi etc. you'd be surprised how tempermental electrical components can be when exposed to constant vibration.
are your clocks misted up atall? can be a fault with the clocks themselves, the fuel sender unit earthing a positive feed or even the oil pickup. is the electric starter working? check the starter motor connections arnt coverd in gunk as wet mud is conductive should keep you busy with these. if none of the above try a new starter relay and rec
Yes my clocks are misted up. Will have to check all the wiring tomorrow. The engine turns over fine (electric start) but sounds like there is no fuel in there.
whip the clocks off an bung em in your airing cupboard for a day or two.. if this keeps happening you need new clocks. common fault with them.
fuck off you mug all im saying is my nrg wouldnt start and the fuel and oil light come on and the guage went to empty i changed the fuse and it fixed the problem im only trying to fucking help dickhead
now now girls.. point taken but this wouldent cause the cutting out. check the fuse all the same, if it is blown check the BLUE wire coming off the stator for any breaks pritty sure its the clocks tho
One person (on another forum) has said that they had similar problems and they tried everything then took the clocks out and it started. Where are the clocks connected to and will it just start if they are not linked up. Thanks for all the help
Just went to start my bike and it started up as normal. I think it may be water getting somewhere and when it dries out its okay. The problem is I don't know whether or not to trust it. Shall I whip the clocks off and leave them in the airing cupboard and home for the best?
my nrg clocks misted up quite a few tyms and my bulbs have blown a few tyms and sum tyms it dont start i have 2 kick start it but 1s i kicked it it elecs starts fine!! i think its just where its cold or could this be a problem??
just seal the clocks with silicone.. peice of piss to see where pannels go toghether. jus whip them off an have a good dry out, then seal and reconstruct
Got the clocks off just and have taken them apart. There was a small amount of water inside the casing and alot of black crap. I've washed all the plastic bits (not electrics lol) and will put them in the airing cupboard later. I've just started my bike up without the clocks and it started really easily like the day I bought it. I only touched the button to see if the engine was still turning over without the clocks and it fired up and usually it needs abit of throttle. I've had a quick ride up and down my drive and it seems to run alot better than it has been when I've had the problems. With the clocks on it struggles to rev over 6,000 unless you give its lots of throttle but today it was brilliant. Later on I will go for a ride without the clocks on to compare it to my mates SR50 which is EXACTLY the same speed as my DNA until recently when he has been quicker so will see if were the same again now. Also I've just noticed the oil cable needs adjusting as its about 1.5mm out (running rich) so hopefully this will make a difference to how it runs.
I think I've found the problem. When I took the clocks off and started the bike up, I saw a slight spark in the connector block and the fuel sensor light had burnt out. Have tried to fix it but my Dad is going to have to get some tools from work to sort it out.
