was riding then the bike cutt out. Wheeled it to scooter shop and they say it was a faulty fuel tap bcos petrol ismt gettin 2 carb. Paid to get that changed. Bike now working so i rode home. When parking up the bike turnt itself off as soon as i came to a standstill. Tried to start bike with and without choke and for a few times it started and cutt off in one second, and now it wont start. There is definatly petrol in the bike bcos i have a reserve bottle in the tank which i poured in to make sure. I looked at the petrol lead in the carb and there is bubbles in the hose. I cant tell if the petrol is going in because of the color of the hose. I rang the garage and they rekon its the fuel pump? What do u guys rekon? Im running a runner with 172, 25m carb, 55m crank, malosi cdi, polini vary, scorpion pipe
see if there is fuel in the small whiteish tank where your knees are on the frame. take the tap out and see if fuel comes out. if it does then the pump is working. try tapping the bottom of the carb with a screwdriver handle a few times. the float might just be stuck in the off possition. if tis fix's it strip out the bottom of the carb and give it all a good clean
thanks minor, i will try that when i get home, how can i be 100% sure the float is stuck before i take the carb out?
one more thing, i was riding and my air filter flew off a few days before this problem. i was riding without an air filter for about 10mins. i atcually found the filter, put it on and it fell off again, so i was riding for about 30mins without the filter. i then got home and put a new one on. does this give any extra clues?
i undid the big screw in the bottom of the carb/floatbowl. I believe there was a jet in that screw so i blew it out and put some water through it. The bike still didnt start after this BUT if I pour a bit of petrol in the air filter then it starts for a while then wont start again unless i put petrol in teh filter, I know i havent fully cleaned out the carb, can someone tell me exactly what bits i need to clean and how to do it because Ive never really touched the carb before thats why i only gave it a little touch yesterday. So please can someone tell me exactly where to clean and unassemble. Thanks
i dont have electric start mate. And i put the float bowl back on before i tried to start it. Any help on unassembling and cleaning the carb please?
