i have a 70cc malossi typhoon with a 21mm carb. 90 main jet and 60 pilot. it has a malossi variator with 5.5 gram rollers. when i ride the bike it doesnt reach top speed and seems like its not revving all the way. when i take the side pan off the torque driver is not opening all the way and just doesnt rev up the way it should. i have tried all needle clip positions and its the same way. also tried a 85 main jet,....same. the compression of the piston is about 100 psi.....any ideas why its doing this? also when i installed the rollers i put a little two stroke on them to lube them up. and i have a zip torque driver instead of typhoon cause i hear the size of it is better for top speed.
well opon further inspection there was no gear oil in the bike!!!!!! i guess the guy i bought it from forgot to put oil in the gear case when he did the malossi gear up kit...i am guessing this would cause the bike not to spin fast enough to rev up and open the clutch system all the way....there was a burnt smokey smell in the case too so im hoping i didnt burn up a bearing or something....it still spins fine, im just hoping i caught it in time...ill put some gear oil in and reinstall everything and hope that does it.
well i cleaned up the gears and put in some gear oil but still no change....ive tried 85 and 90 main jets and my pilot jet is 60.....
Atleast you solved a big problem while trying to iron out another one Maybe another day with no oil and you could have had an engine seizure
yea man for sure...i was shocked!!! i think it might have something to do with the torque converter spring or clutch....i have a white main spring. (big one) and two white with one red spring in my malossi clutch.... again i have 60 pilot and 90 main jet in my 21mm carb and im using 5.5 gram rollers in my malossi variator....any ideas???
come to find out...buddy had a 125 belt in there so the belt musta been slipping...anyone have a pic of how the belt is supposed to fit in the clutch? i need to know how deep it sits inside the torque dirver at idle....
its supposed to sit basically right at the rim of the tq driver and also different pulleys would mean you owuld need a different belt..a zip one im imagining.. if you ever decided to change bk to the typh one ive got one
well im thinking this dude lied about the bike so im trying to see if it was really from a zip....can you take the measurement from the top to bottom and maybe across it too? i really want the typhoon one back.
Hey mate, got it sorted? If the belt was slipping you would know because the bike would jolt alot when going up hills, and steep roads. Do you have a different clutch on it? I though that matey could have changed the clutch, and put a set of tougher springs in it. Meaning that even if it was spinning as fast as it could, the springs couldnt push all the way out - due to them having more resitance.
the rear pulley's are the same in the zip and typh (the year makes the difference, but the old old typh engine and old old zip engine still have matching variators and rear pully assembelys) the only difference between the zip type hiper engine and the typhoon type is the distance from the crank to the imput shaft (transmission case length) as the zip engine is shorter. your problem (if your belt doesent sit flush with the outside of the rear pully after running the bike and removing the cover) is an incorect belt, wrong type pulley for your engine or an incorrectly spaced/incorrect type variator... my guess is everythings fine, your ignoring the setup guides and million other posts wiht the same problem and are playing with the carb in an arbitrary manner. my guess is rollers (as usual, bike doesent rev, dont upjet the bloody thing) drop weight off the roller weight gradually, the revs will go up. once they are where you want them add a little weight back, you will feel when its right as it pulls nicely and revs just under the point the engine starts to struggle. the jet is pritty big tbh. sort the transmission and work back from there. guides in the guides section as always. if however it is transmission related please do put pictures up of how the belt sits and ill advise further
i went and got a propper belt and still nothing...belt sits better but bike is still not revving that good. i even tried 4.1 gram rollers in and still nothing....i am getting some extra oil around the spark plug when i take it out but the bike is not smoking too much... i do have the wrong carb inlet modified with a rubber bushing to fit the 21mm carb,...i dont know if that could be it...or maybe the reeds....i just dont know...
i have ruled out the tranny....i tried even stock torque spring and belt and light rollers. the bike is smooth so it doesnt feel like its slipping...its just not revving. im going to say now its got to be carb or exhaust related. i tried the origonal exhaust and that made it worse. it could be the carb or my reeds now i guess. any ideas?
i fixed the carb and it was a little better but not much....i tried it with the heaviest rollers i had....9 gram. and that works the best so far. the bike revs up all the way but only downhill slopes....and it still has great take off to wheelie...i think i might need 10 or 10.5......why so heavy for a 70cc? must be my pipe??? i think its a pm tuning 360. but im not sure its for this bike... maybe for another but i think it wouldnt fit if it was for a 125 or somthing else
