Hey, i was doing 70mph on my runner 172 and the bike died, just like i ran out of fuel was verry werid then i tryed to kick it up, it wouldent fire. so i kept trying and it wouldent start, so i put the choke on and then it started??? the bike was red hot so why the hell would it start when the choke was on ? i thought maby the flot got stuck in the carb or something and starved it of fuel. P.s my bike has a 25mm delorto carb on it Thanks
running lean i would of thought...hence putting the choke on helped (richening up the mixture) also remember a lean mixture burns a lot hotter, which could of been why your engine got real hot....richer mixtures burn much cooler....the temperature guage is a handy tool when trying to assess jetting you know
Well the temp was normal and i cant see why it would feel like it ran out of fule and then wouldent start if it was lean, it would siese wouldent it ?
that is what you said orginally, and that is what led Dave to say what he did. Besides partial seizes/ " nip ups," on bikes with automatic clutchs aren't so obvious or dramatic as with a locked/manual clutch.
if it was me, I guess given there is spark and compression, and the plug after cranking was dry, I would have the carb off for a strip and a thorough clean and inspection. Especially the float bowl and contents including the jets.
as people said, it got hot..... the fact you put the choke in was probaby just the fact it had some time to cool down. id check yu idle mix all the same. the choke can be running more of a leaner mixture than the idle curciut, it is all down to the choke jet vs the idle mix/ammount. its rare, but can happen. if the mixture is set real rich it will be richer than the choke but the choke will pass more mixture. sound like its overheated. check waterlevel and jetting.
