Zip goes well, stops less well. I've put in better pads and a braided brake line, still not the best. But with a disc the size of a digestive I'm not expecting much... I want bigger better brakes but am stuck with wheel/disc offset to simply put a bigger disc on and fit a caliper spacer or bigger calpier. So I think I'm looking at a bigger/different front wheel (and back to match if needed), I've looked at maybe fitting a Zip Sp or Sfera front end, but not sure if it would fit. So anybody had a similar experience or done similar..?
I have a mk 1 zip sp and the brakes are pants too lol.. i want to do a big wheel conversion nrg engine and forks, looks nice aswell!
Zips with an sp front end can have some pretty impressive brake setups. They are the most commonly used scooters for racing so there are some pretty good parts for them if you dont mind spending some money.
So could i theoretically just fit a Sp or Sfera front end and go from there, I know the Sp and Sfera's run a bigger disc as standard so this should increase braking efficiency immediately. Then a wavy/saw tooth disc and bigger caliper and id actually be able to stop in a hurry...
Ok so its been a while, but ive finally done it. Sfera 80cc front end fits straight into a '99 and earlier zip. A 17mm Alu billet home made spacer had to be made so that the top steering bearings were loaded as there is that amount of difference in length between the zip frame and the Sfera fork tube. I had to fit a bar conversion and universal speedo as the original clocks bolted to the bars simply didnt cut it... Ill do a full picture thread later... http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g17/calibrakid/FB_IMG_13485122433537455_zpseb087171.jpg
