hows the best way off removing the forks on my zip sp as on my classic vespas you just put it on its stand as front wheel is already of the floor then undo the top steering nuts then tilt it one way and forks can be removed , how do i do this on my zip besides lying the scooter down , or is it just a case of lifting the scooter onto its back wheel when someone else removes the fork then sit it on a beer crate till forks are replaced
2 person job but 1 to hold/guide the forks out, the other to hold the back brake on and lift the bike backwards or if you have access to a lift, clamp the rear wheel with bike on centre stand and drop the forks through the removeable panel
how do you remove the handle bars on a piaggio zip, i have taken the long bolt out through top of bars and everything is still tight is this due to not being taken out for years, i dont want to force it and damage anything , or do i need to remove the 3 locking nuts at top of fork tube as well to remove bars or is this just for removing the forks thanks
the bars are held in by a wedge thats pulled up the inside of the stem by the long bolt that you've removed. As the bolts tightened it pulls the wedge into a taper that expands against the inner side of the forks main stem Basically to release the wedge, put the bolt back til its almost in completely (plenty of threads) and then give it a smack on the bolt head to drive the wedge out the taper. Once its released you can then drawer the bars.
it all came out in the end , think i was just being overcautious as it did not move straightaway and was worried it was going to strip the threads if i hit it to hard , all back together now just need to re bleed the brakes ,
