ok, so yesterday i snapped my bolt in the cylinder thread (bolt that attaches the exhaust) and i might have a go at drilling the remainder of the bolt out of the thread. what i want to know is do i need to take the bike apart (barrel) or can i just lean the bike over and drill at it. also once i have drilled a hole in the bolt how do i get the rest of it out? comments will be appreciated.
Word of warning, I rushed drilling my bolt out the other day and the flange snapped....70 kit it is lol. Id recomend removing the barrel, cutting the bolt flush with the hold. Then centre punching the bolt and make sure the drill is lined correct.
wow shit mate thats a bit of bad luck. im taking it to a guy i know tomo and hes doing it for 15 quid. id rather pay that than pay out for a new bore or flange.!!
Wow loads of people I know snap them bolts ;o I coat the little fuckers in WD40 before I go near them
yeah i generally do aswell crana but they go weak cos theyre so shit. especially if you have a sweatty pipe cos its much heavy than a sports exhaust. it was my fault for rushing aswell i wanted my zx on!. its getting fixed tomo so...
bad luck guys :w00t: if anything you could make the bolt housing bigger :wtf: also it seems like aerox owners posting here :w00t:
the bolts are fine if there kept straifght and rust free (i use stainless studs and copper bolts.. no porbs with rust there) just try drill a small hole in the middle then grab some stud extractors (about a fiver even from halfroads) and wind it in (anticlockwise obv) keep turning and it will bite into the remaning stud and unwind it.. then go buy some stainless 8mm bolts and cut the hex npeice off... you now have stainless studs that will never rust
i did buy some of those stud extractors but i wasnt confident enough to drill out the stud. and i dont really want to take the bike apart too much.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5pcs-Pro-Screw-Bo ... dZViewItem These are all you need to get snapped studs out. There are other ways like puddle welding an old nut through the center onto the stud but stud extractors are a very cheap and easy way of doing it.
