A guy in work gave me a old 70's kawasaki crosser for me to use for parts, ive decided its in to good a condition to break up so im restoring it. Ive completely sanded the frame down ready for a coat of paint. i was was thinking to just use hammerite but are they any decent sprays the will be as good for rust proofing? rather not have brush marks if i can help it. it has to be a thick paint as i know it will get chipped alot when i park at work. thanks
If you want a durable finish then get it powdercoated. Powdercoat is far harder wearing than any paint, will give an excellent finish and saves a lot of prep work. Should only cost around £40 to do the whole frame, if that, and you can have any colour. Just make sure you screw some old bolts into any threaded holes otherwise the think coating will cover the threads and make reassembly a bastard.
or you can go to your local shop where it sells paints and stuff for people who do car paint and bodywork and ask them whats the best paint to buy
If you cant get it powder coated then next best is an enamel paint, it's what was used before powder coating.
If you want a durable finish use hammerite smooth in a spray can. I did the RGV125 frame in it in silver and then clear laquered over the top to give a good shiny finish. That way, you get the shine and the tough coat of the hammerite at a cheap price. Begs anyone to tell the difference to powdercoat if they didnt already know
The need to do mine again is approaching. Last year i used black rubberised enamel spray paint. It mostly seems to have sufficed. This year no idea, but my just give it some more of the same.
