hi going home the other day my runner started backfiring and i pulled in and it stalled, but started straight up again? 100 yards down the road it started back firing then cleared and shot off with full power until a minute later it started back firing again an cut out. i stopped as i carrry a spare plug so changed it for the new one but still the same issues?one minute full power then back firing so pull over it tick over or cuts out but will start straight back up. so far i have changed the plug, the plug cap, the ht lead, the cdi, the reed block, the carb. the inlet manifold, checked the earth and all pipes to carb etc and still got the same issues, have also had the top end off as worried it may have been rings but everything was all good tho a little oily as when i took the carb off i noticed that my cable adjuster had rattled itself in so the oil cable has been pulling before the carb has been opening? anyone got any ideas? i cant see it being woodruff key as at some points it has full power and flys as normal and when back firing its as if it is not sparking correctly?? i have a spare coil and stator so will change them over the next few days but just wondered if anyone else had any ideas? all help ideas appreciated

What did the spark plug look like that you took out? Wet? If so then it's probably running too rich. Have you made any modifications recently, or changed the setup of your carb?

Also, what spark plug are you using in the runner?

not changed anything in ages, plug was damp with fuel and using an iridium but have tried new br9es. gonna put a std 180 kit on in next few days as only checked to see if rings were in place via the spigots so maybe one has welded itself in place but always run it with a tad more oil than usual? will post up when i have changed the top end to let you know how i get on?
