    Hi,
I got a 172 kit in the mail today. I'm fitting it to a standard FXR180. In the instructions it states to advance the oil pump setting by 3mm beyond the factory alignment marks. Why is this and it is really necessary? I can't see why a 172 kit would require more oil than the standard 180 setup.
    Cheers.

I agree with what you say but I always run a little rich on the oil pump on all my 2t scooters.

Yeah well it may not be a bad idea in general as the reason for having to change the standard cylinder and piston may have been due to it running lean at some point. How much past the alignment mark do you set it at Marsh? 3mm seems like a fair bit.

personally I always do away with the pump and premix, the 172 kit makes more power than the 180 as standard due to porting, you're recommended to run them on a 33:1 ratio aka 33ml to 1 liter of fuel. I would put it too 3mm past standard, what jet size you running and is the bike standard ?

Ok thanks. Yeah currently the bike is standard. Standard 20.5mm delly and std airbox. I will upgrade the carb later either to 25mm or a PWK style but didn't want to be starting the new top ends life with an unknown carb setup. The instructions also say that upjetting may be required. You think i'll need to?
