I have an aprilia sr50 2012 I have noticed a leak but I'm not sure what it is, can any one help? Thanks
its a twostroke scooter so there are only a few things it could be fuel - oil - coolant and also it depends where the leak if from ie the area on the scooter. is it the carb - the radiator - or leaving an oil puddle on the floor and over scooters mainframe - rear end
can you give us a wider image of the area, that looks close to the kickstand if i am right. the SR 50 came with a few motor variations, some had minareli motors and others had piaggio motors , also be good to know what we are dealing with ie a fourstroker or a twostroked motor. if its a fourstroke im gonna say its an oil leak from the oil pan area. if its a two stroke it could be two things, a fuel leak or a water coolant leak/ water pump leak
yeah i would say a water pump shaft seal has gone and the liquid your seeing is water coolant. to make sure you need to remove the variator side cover and check up the front , remove the variator and behind it you should see the water pump shaft hole where the water pumps shaft sits into, its a sealed in shaft and the seals can perish over time due to wear and tear.
if its a piaggio engine : http://www.pedparts.co.uk/product/176/piaggio-water-pump-repair-kit if its a aprilia katana : http://www.pedparts.co.uk/product/879/suzuki-katana-water-pump-repair-kit
to be honest you may be better off having a shop do the work for you. we tend to judge work by wrenches 1 wrench = newbie can do 2 wrench = some scooter knowledge is preffered 3 wrench amature tuner work 4 wrench pro tuner / shop mech your looking at a 3 - 4 wrench work job there, its a case of maybe splitting the motor but your gonna need the right tools whatever happens , if you go hammer and screwdriver style you will end up costing yourself more money than its worth . having a shop mech do the work will cost you BUT its going to be done propperly and be set up correctly to .
