    Hi all,
Just purchased a 59 plate aprilia sr50 with many modifications. it started fine when i brought it, but now will not start, when i take one side of the air box off, it starts fine, and when i put it back on it still starts fine, but when i go to start it for the second or third time nothing happens..
i know its getting enough air with the airbox together as it currently dosent have an air filter (will be putting one on asap)
    Can anyone help?

Before you put an air filter on ASAP. Stop, and don't. I would replace/clean the air filter element and see how you go with that as it may be clogged up

There is no air filter element in the airbox? There must/should be.

I know there should be, but theres not. The previous owner thought it wouldnt do much harm to run it without one.

Oh dear, oh dear the previous owner doesn't know squat. I don't know whether it will rectify the problem but you must get a filter up in that air box right away. The carb will have been sucking up all sorts of crap from the road. Shouldn't be more than a tenner for a malossi one and it is a copy of the standard one.

As brett rightly says, having no filter in it will be significantly affecting it.

Put a filter in the box (Around £5 - £7) and see how it goes. :good:

I forgot to say before you put the filter in give the inside of the airbox a wipe, even if just with a baby wipe.

Just odered one online, but surely this cant be the reason for it not to start as when i take the cover off the airbox it starts fine

Process of elimination, if you know there's a problem solve that. If there's still a problem then look for another reason it could be doing it.

Let us know how you get on. :good:

390308580584 shove that into ebay and check its the same as the one that has snapped. If not I'd try your local aprilia dealers. They may be a bit more expensive but they will be able to get you the right part first time. The SR50's engine comes in many variants, apprilia, piaggio, piaggio injection and minerelli
