Sorry, hit the wrong button before i put the problem on that I think I'm having with it.

    Short version is:

Gilera VX125, no spark, all earths cleaned, new fuse board in the front end, new in-line fused holders near the battery. Continuity tests indicate all the wires are good to and from the cdi to the relevant components, stator, pick-up, earth, coil, etc.
Fitted new stator and pick-up as the old one was shot according to the tests, still no spark.
Apparently this is the immobiliser bypassed cdi.
This bike has the later engine and loom into an early frame so no led to indicate any problems or fault find.
What i could do with is the way to test the cdi itself across the terminals, before i condemn it and cost the customer another £145 plus postage and labour just to rule it out.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think there is any test data, unfortunately you need a replacement to try!

Starting to think that myself, searched for the last two days. Might drop an email to malossi themselves and see what they say.

    None.
i believe hairyjim was trying to figure out a way of testing CDI`s as he had two of mine off me when he bought some other stuff i think. dont know if he ever managed to do it so may be worth dropping him a line and asking if he ever did.

I've got the info for the ordinary cdi's, but with the malossi digitronic stuff it's a whole new ball game. Just dropped them an email to ask if they would be good enough to send me some info of what values to expect when probing across the pins, we'll see what transpires.
I'll post any response they send, if any.

Apparently these malossi digitronic cdi's have 4 maps in them, as well as bypassing the immobiliser. Basically, it's the ECU you have in a car. Controls everything. I've got the pin layout and wiring diagrams for it, so i can test what each wire is supposed to do, but without a data sheet to tell me what to expect when testing across the pins to see if the internal circuitry is fooked......................i'm fooked!
Without the data sheet, the only real way to see if the unit is shot, is to replace it with a known good one, or buy a new one and take a hit that it is the cause or not as the case may be. But at £145 each, it's an expensive test if it fails. And then, who pays? Me or the customer?
My security lights are going barmy out the front, looking at them on the cctv screen; probably got a spider crawling all over the sensor again. Just popping outside to sort it out:rolleyes:

is it a direct replacement part.no faffing about with wiring?try it on anotherbike. Or find a local malossi dealer, might be able to test it for small fee.

So I finally bit the bullet, and I bought the new Malossi cdi.
After testing all the wiring and using several vx125 wiring diagrams, the only possible solution was that the cdi had packed up completely. Customer baulked at the cost of it (£155) and i said that i couldn't guarantee that it would solve the problem, but it was the only thing left to do. He duly came up the the dosh, part ordered and delivered, plugged it in and WAHEY!!!! sparks!
Little bit of tinkering and she runs quite nicely now.
    Customer is over the moon.
Still a few little things to do but another one will be gone by the weekend.

Na, started with the easy stuff first, went through the motions, no sparks so........plug, lead, coil, tested feed to the coil, nothing, tested stator and pickup, nothing across terminals that should have had resistance, replaced that, still no spark, tested all wires for continuity to their relevant components, several failures, new main fuse board, two new in-line fuses near battery, rewired rear of ignition, re-tested all wiring from cdi plug to relevant components, everything great now, still no spark.
So, by process of elimination, it had to be the cdi. Would have liked to have been able to test it with another known good one, but none of my other customers with vx's has the Malossi cdi fitted, and the email to Malossi themselves was a complete waste of time.
    However, it's fixed, he's happy, i'm happy, :D
