I fitted green malossi clutch springs to me runner recently. It takes a bit of getting used to. Not ideal when in traffic at about 40km/h. Seems like there is a big jump from the std ones to these stiffer ones and as far as I know the green ones are malossi's mildest - does anyone know if is something in between these and the standard ones?
I'm assuming it's not taking off when you open it up. At 40 kmh your clutch is no longer doing anything. It's stuck to the bell. You need to look at either the weight of the rollers or the width of the central slider of the variator - or possible the needle of the carb. When belts wear out, they tend to stick more to the variator. You can compensate by putting a very thin washer to widen the running surfaces. 0.4mm generally does the trick if it's bogging. Good luck
Thanks, I should have explained better. It's a fresh 172 setup - just fitted new crank and top end. The revs pick up quite a bit before taking off as expected with stiffer springs, however when cruising along in traffic at slower speeds it feels like after you let the throttle off, you have to give it a fair bit to get it moving again. The engine does dip in revs a little after take off but I figured that was probably the needle height (middle clip setting) or possibly too large a main jet (std 20.5 delly upjetted main from 90 to 98). But the main issue is having to give it a fair bit to get it going again after coasting. The engine holds on to it's revs good enough, it just doesn't seem to get effective drive quick enough after reapplying the throttle. I figured that the clutch was disengaging to cause this. I'm running 14.6g rollers and std contra and pretty new polini belt. Was thinking about getting 13.5g rollers to try - you think this may help?
