Damn it, phone posted without me writing anything.

Thought it would be a nice bike to do, as the Derbi is great to ride so thought a bit more power was in order.

It now has the exhaust and everything on and is ready for the road. Going to ride it for a bit and if it all works well after the engine conversion I am going to clean and paint it and stick some Malossi forks on it.

It's not super powerful or anything, but is putting out 20bhp which I can live with. Would have been more but due to having to modify exhausts to get them round the frame I just went for a Scorpion. Didn't want to start reshaping a PM59 as they seem to like to snap even when they're as intended. Might look into somethng else in the future though.

thats brilliant mate good work, were the mounts hard to fabricate as i presume the engine didnt just bolt straight in? good project though nice to see something different

Cheers, thought it would be cool to have something different. I haven't ever heard of anyone having a Derbi with a 172 in it, I think they're not a bad looking bike as well.

The frame had to be modified a bit to fit the new engine, not too much though luckily. I will try get some pics of where the frame had to be cut and welded. It is a very tight fit, but I think it suits the bike better than the 50 engine. I have had to sacrifice some storage as well, engine would have banged into the seat bucket so it has been reshaped. It has a side stand on it now as well with the original one not fitting after the new engine went in.

I will upload a few decent pics this week. Good weather at the moment round my way so looking forward to getting a few miles on it.

Yeah I think they might be. Suit the bike sooo much better than runner wheels etc that alot of the conversionists like to put on. Almost look standard IMO.

Really like this just from that 1 pic lol

I don't know the figures on the real weight of the Derbi, but I have never noticed it being particularly heavy. It definitely feels a lot lighter than my Dragster or Runner.

I did look at putting Runner wheels on it initially, but like has been said they didn't suit the bike. The front wheel that is on it now is still the standard one believe it or not, the rear that I got is a very close match for it so am pleased with that. I couldn't actually tell you what it came off, someone just told me they had a wheel that would fit.

It's been out on the road now. It's working and feeling good. I will put some proper pics of the whole bike up later.

Here's a couple of pics of how it is now. Very pleased overall, the handling is better than I hoped for. It's spot on, feels much more agile than my Dragster or Runner. Some issues with electrics, the battery is just discharging, not charging back up at all. I'm not great with electrics, anyone advise on what to check? Had to nick the regulator off my Dragster as well as the one I had on it was putting put way too much and blowing bulbs. Now I can't get hold of another, so if anyone knows anywhere that will have them in stock it would be good to know. Everywhere I have tried are saying a few weeks.
