all my friends are saying an air filter will ruin my zip. what are the advantages and disadvantages of air filters? what is the difference between an air filter and an air box? what difference does size make? I'm completely clueless
On a 50cc a open air filter, is totally pointless. It will just cause engine problems and use a lot of fuel. And a very hard to set up correctly. a air box is a airfilter inside a plastic box which controls the amount of air flow goes into a carb. You're better off leaving the air box on unless you have a high end race engine which needs more air flow in all honesty. They sound nice yes. But not worth the trouble.
What about the Doppler Racing Air Boxes? They seem to be a better upgrade to the standard Air Box. Might not run into 'as' many problems as your Polini Racing filter and the rest. Take a look: http://goo.gl/60pyK
This should help things: http://www.scootershack.co.uk/threads/open-filters.11964/ the intake on a 2 stroke is a tuned intake due to the reeds opening and closing
keep the stock air box you will regret getting a open air filter like i did. should really only be using open air filters on race engines even the doppler air boxs are no good. Spend your money else where like exhaust, variator cylinder, clutch ect
What chippie said. They're pointless to be at all honest. I'm using one cause I've got a straight manifold etc. and i'm converting to a stage 6 racing which wont work on a air box haha. But yeah, stick with standard airbox!!
