I have bought a new K&N style air filter when I accelerate it is good but my top speed is only about 40mph, my standard one lets me go 55mph but the acceleration is crap. What shall I do???

Yeah needs upjetting around 10-20% and on a 50 it will never run as well as the airbox.

If you put your airbox on properly and dont change anything else yer it will be "fast" again.

You need to learn how to do things before doing them otherwise it always ends up worse than before.

I dont know because its not my ped, but It will run different than before, probably better but maybe even worse. General rule to air filters, upjet 10-20%. Theres not a certain size jet to use because every engine reacts different.

Get the airbox back on trust me its not worth trying to jet a 50 to run a open filter, it will never run as well.

Open filters are for high performance machines.

just for the record, freeflowing filters are for high performance FULL THROTTLE OPPERATION only WHEN its easier than making an appropriate airbox. NO production car/bike will have a "free flowing filter" and its not alwas for emmiussions

crossers (closest possible all power race application engine size/type) use airboxes... they do serve a function (i run an airbox on my 50/70 aswell as road 125's) not using one is like using a straight peice of bigger tube for an exhaust becasue the stock one doesent work.. as anyone knows on a 2 stroke the exhaust does ALOT, as does the airbox!!

removing usually ends in poor performance and hours/days/weeks of painfully annoying setup hickups and guesswork. on high end scooters you run one yes as the only real aim is full throttle power at wich point the airbox would still be benifitial (if it resonated air at the exact same rate/time as the pipe) as the reeds would also be controlled from the outer side aswell as the inner. hence you have one. take any bike with a freeflowing filter, you can make an airbox the correct shape size and distance from the carb wich will set a reflective pulse at a certian rpm, your peak power rpm, meaning theres a sharper signal on the reeds. this WILL mean more power. a SLIGHT restriction through a carb WILL cause a dip in pressure = the carb is "sucking" harder, meaning more fuel through a smaller jet, meaning better mixture of fuel and air = more power WITH fuel econimy/sharper responce.. its the basics of fuel injection theory, get the fuel to "squirt" at JUST the right time (remembering the air through a carb changes direction 200 odd times a second) totally different how injection systems do this as to how carbs can but its ALL dependant on the airbox.

airbox's are good things. they will all have a reflective wall the feeding pipe will lead to then open easy air delivery from any direction into and out of this reflective pulse... why do you think the elbow between the carb and airbox has a flat section half way down it? restrictor? its to help the pulse reflect round the bend. you need to think of air as water and signals as light. the rest confuses you into some sort of understanding... run with it.

you should put your standard air box on then buy 6 gram mollosi rollers and that will upgrade the acceleration :good:

yeah wack the standard air filter back on and then put lighter rollers in than 6 but this will make your bike not do that 55mph ! CLOCK SPEED ! but it will have very very quick accel !
