Hi there, i've got an 06 aerox and the bike will not tick over. The bike starts but only when you apply throttle and I can drive it for about 200 yards but when I come to a junction, the bike will cut out and cannot get the bike running again.

any help would be appreciated. :)

Was the ped running fine before? What have you changed?

It was running before but the bike was sitting at 4-5,000rpm so I put it in a yamaha dealership and they said it was the throttle on the carb opening and not shutting, they fixed that I paid them the money. When I got it out the garage the mechanic couldn't get it started, so I had to push it home. I got it started once yesterday but wouldnt start again.

    Wait a sec...

You took it to a mechanic, they fix or change something and they don't do a test run before giving it back to the customer?...

i have never seen a mechanic that gives a ped back that does not work without explanations. Did they say anything?

If not, my advice, take it back, ask them to get it sorted. As far as I know that throttle thing you paid for could be absolute bullshit to be honest!... even more if the ped does not work after they supposedly fixed it.

    Is the ped completely standard?

If the carb was opening and not closing surely you wouldn't be able to stop it revving when u stop at junctions ect and what sort of a mechanic lets you 'push'! A bike away blatently unfixed. That sounds like utter bollocks from the dealer lol could be something like the needle in the carb has dropped a notch or two and needs raising up a bit

Just striped the bike, been looking at the carb and we thought it could have been the idle jet since the bike isn't ticking over by itself. I've been out on the bike today, it's still got all of its power but when you come to slow down and you close the throttle, at about 5mph the bike just cuts out. It's resolved quickly by just kicking it over again but dont really want to go into mainstream traffic for obvious reasons. Theres a local Gilera dealer near where I live, one of my relations knows a guy who works there and he said he'll look at on Tuesday so hopefully it's resolved because we've cleaned the carb, checked the float, the pin was in the correct place. I honestly have no idea what else it could be, it just will not idle what so ever.

    Cheers for all the replys

blocked fuel filter? i know on my old aerox it would stall at lights and struggle to start or just restart, When i took it to the shop i picked it up the next day and he said it was just some naff fuel that had blocked the filter up, ran fine after and i wasnt charged

id certainly have never pushed a bike home from a dealer having had it repaired lol

Well thanks for that creamsoda, we took the petrol tank off and check the fuel tap. The vacuum nozzle was completely blocked but one of my mates has got an air compressor and we tried to blow it out. It sorta worked but soon blocked back up. The metal was really corroded and I've bought a new one online and should arrive by Tuesday. The bike takes off perfectly, once I play with the throttle abit then take off but If i'm coming down a road and slow down to turn the junction as soon as I try to pick up speed again it just bogs down and eventually cuts out. If I wait a few mins it'll kick over straight away. I'm now more than certain it's the fuel tap because I've been told the compression is totally fine, even though them at the dealership said it was going.

excellent news, possibly best ot to run the bike, as the reason its cutting out is its running lean. My sym did this, would go ok, then you would slow down and go again and it would bog and just idle, then after a few secs it would go again.

I cleaned my carb inside out, all the jets etc and bingo ran fine with no more issues

I cant kick it over unless I hold the throttle open for a few seconds because theres not enough petrol getting through automatically. It's pretty dangerous driving on ice when you've got a bike that cuts out when you come to stop. It's like the vacuum wont push the petrol from the tank to the carb.

Now if you leave the bike dormant and kick it, it'll start straight away but after the bike cuts out, you cannot kick it over again well you can but it takes alot like 10 kicks. It's going to a scooter garage today so I hopefully should get it fixed. To be honest it sounds like fuel/carb, because the engines running fine.

chack the choke is working correcty?

my sym choke whent wrong and it meant the bike was flooding itself. If i left the bike alone for a day then kicked it, it would fire up for a few seconds then die, and refuse to start again. Turned out the choke was faulty and it was simple on all the time causing major flooding
